Credit Where Due

I may be the one in front of the mike, but my musical career would not be possible without a support casting of many others. I can't possibly credit everyone here, but I at least want to acknowledge some of you.

FRIENDS & OTHER INFLUENCES IN THE BIZ

Anne Hills, Jan Burda, and Cindy Mangsen for pushing me out onto my first Chicago stage.
Marge Summit of His'n'Hers for being the first club owner to give me a chance.
Terry Straker of Guitar Works, Ltd.—luthier and guitar doctor extraordinaire. I thank him, as do all my instruments.
• My songwriting teachers—Ralph Covert (especially), Michael Smith, and Steve Earle—for making me push my creative envelope even when I didn't think it needed pushing. Ralph guided me through the recording process, got me to do my best, showed me that my best was even better than I dared dream, and is one heck of an alchemist in the studio.
Mark Schwartz of UberStudio for pushing just the right buttons, sliding just the right faders, knowing exactly when and where to point and click, and having infinite patience.
Rosamond Campbell, for showing me just what a dulcimer could do and challenging me to make it do even more. Without her, there'd probably never have been much of a dulcimer community in northern Illinois.
My many musical influences: Joni Mitchell, Bruce Springsteen, Pete Townshend, Warren Zevon, Stan Rogers, Steve Goodman, Sting, Tom Lehrer, and Tom Paxton.

MY CIRCLE OF FAMILY & PERSONAL FRIENDS

Bob Berlien and Kathy Routliffe, for turning music into friendship and friendship into music, giving me the joy and magic of harmony and teamwork, never taking "no" for an answer when it comes to music and never giving "no" for an answer when it comes to friendship and loyalty.
My amazing family: Mom and Rona for being there all my life, Dad (alev hasholom) for giving me my musical heritage and sense of humor.
Last but not least: Gordy—the world's greatest kid, performing partner, and one heck of a "manager" and motivational coach—and Bob (or do you say "Dr. Bob?") for footing the bills, putting up with my quirks and doubts, being my most dedicated audience (even as an audience of one), letting us live on love when love was all we had, and knowing I could succeed even when I didn't know it myself! Here's to our first and next thirty years of life and love together.

Jeff Schalles has been setting type for over 20 years and, though he's long since mastered high-end desktop production and currently has a cushy union job creating digital offset plates for the largest sheetfed presses in Minnesota, he still thinks of himself as an old-time typesetter trapped in a mad world of pixels and megabytes, fighting for typographic sanity, truth, justice, and the American Way. He literally fine-tuned the rough edges off this site's original logo and morphed it into what you now see. Visit his Web site.
Bob Berlien—jack of infinite trades, fellow musician, and dear personal friend for many years—is waiting in the wings, stage (very much) left, to help out with this site when needed. He also helped with the graphics for Sandy's first CD. You can read a little more about him above and on the site's biography page—or better yet, contact him at rberlien@rcnchicago.com.
